Ministries

Here are some of the community ministries Zion people share in.

Community Dinner, a.k.a. the Welcome Table, provides a full, nutritious meal for anyone who cares to come on Tuesday nights to the Presbyterian Church kitchen in downtown Union. Our congregation provides this meal for some fifty people on the first Tuesday of each month.

Good Samaritan ministry provides assistance to people in need to help with utility shut-offs, evictions, and homelessness.

Green Team not only educates and inspires our congregation to a better stewardship of creation, they plant trees and recycle and do cleanups within the larger community as well.

Head Start House – we provide a building rent-free to support this important early education program in our community. This is the house that sits between our two back parking lots.

Loops of Love ministry crafts prayer shawls and lap robes to be given to people in need of physical and spiritual comfort. These beautiful pieces are delivered to extended care facilities to be distributed to residents and are available upon request through our church office for anyone who needs one.

Kurious Kids Preschool provides high quality care and education to preschoolers at a fraction of the cost of commercial preschool.

Quilters finish quilts by hand and often offers them for other ministries’ fundraisers such as the one they donate each year to the Emmaus Home Bazaar.

Union Food Pantry – we support this independent agency both through on-going food drives and through seasonal projects like our VBS food castle and the Lenten Labyrinth.

In addition, our congregation provides meeting space for a variety of community groups such as:

  • AA (local and regional meetings)
  • Al-anon
  • Girl Scouts/Brownies
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Health & Wellness program through the University of Missouri Extension Office
  • Kiwanis
  • NAMI (National Association for Mental Illness)
  • Recovery
  • Retired Teachers’ Association

In addition, our people give time, energy and leadership to the Backpack Program for Union School District R-XI, Habitat for Humanity, Operation Clean Stream, tire recycling, and public service through community boards and agencies.
